Evacuated to the Castle

Inside and out, Hartlebury Castle is packed full of over a 1,000 years of stories and has over the years been a manor house, prison, hospital and home to over 112 Bishops who shaped national history. This week it was Form 6's evacuation sanctuary as they learned about the lives of wartime evacuees and children’s everyday experiences, including shopping, air raids and life in the countryside. During the afternoon they took part in a series of hands-on activities including packing an evacuee’s suitcase, sending Morse code messages, playing with wartime toys and handling WW2 coins.
