Environmental Encounter
Integrating sustainability into the curriculum to educate pupils about the importance of protecting the environment, and steps they can take to support change, is an integral part of our Environmental Impact Plan. This week Form 3 visited the Bickenhill recycling site which is operated by environmental waste management specialist Veolia, the company that oversees the running of the site on behalf of Solihull MBC. It was a fascinating and enlightening visit as they learned how over 30 different types of waste items can be taken to the site, from cookers to cartons, and hand tools to household chemicals to be reused, recycled, sent for recovery (incineration) and, only as a very last resort, sent to landfill.
